An Teallach

I'd had a sleepless night camped near the summit of Bidean a' Ghlas Thuill on the An Teallach Ridge, my tent being constantly battered by the strong wind. I'd little hope of achieving the photograph I'd been aiming for, as the location would be hopelessly exposed to the gale force easterly wind. However, fortune was on my side and the wind dropped at around 5am and by the time I emerged from my tent in the first light at around 6am the air seemed to be completely still. I hurriedly got my kit together and made for the summit, just in time to witness the first rays of sun striking the ridge. As the sun warmed the face I watched several avalanche-triggered rock falls rush down the gullies. I photographed in the rising sun for around an hour taking in the ridge leading from Sgurr Fiona over Lord Berkeley's Seat, the Corrag Bhuidhe Pinnacles and Cadha Gobhlach to Sail Liath with Loch Toll an Lochain lying in the base of the corrie far below. Cambo Wide, 58mm lens. 6th April 2002, 7.15am.
